Local Sports Team finishes up 2005 season with a Blast!
This weekend was the UofA Blast-off softball tournament, so we of course entered our team. As this was my last hoorah on the team before moving onto the majors (ha!), I was hoping for a strong showing.
Saturday started off with a close loss, then a great shut-out win (20-0). The final game, deciding with pool we would be assigned Sunday, was very close, with the other team managing to eek out a 1-run victory. This sent us to the third-tier playoffs, which was just fine with us. We'd been in the first and second tiers in years past, and we had suffered horribly for it (ie, out after the first game). This way, we figured, we had a fighting chance.
Sunday started off great, with another strong showing against a very hung-over team. But it was a nice way to limber up @ 9am in 5 degree weather. Our second game was quite a bit more serious, and we did manage to keep the gloves and bats working for the win. This put us in the Tier III championship match against the Fighting Words. And fight they did! They were able to place the ball quite precisely into the outfield, and it didn't help that my glove had a huge hole in it. Well not really, but it sured seemed that way. We ended up losing by 5 runs, but we took solace in the fact that we got to play the maximum games possible (6) in the two days, so we certainly got our money's worth. The t-shirts would have been a nice cap to the weekend, but it was fun all around (except the 40 minute waits at Tim Horton's and McDonald's!).
As I mentioned, this was my last game with Local Sports Team aka the Explosions aka other names that I've long forgotten. It's been a great run, and I'd like to think my game has improved over the years, and let's hope I don't get picked last wherever I end up! Hey, I'm pretty sure I went 3 for 3 in the final game, so that isn't too shabby. Thanks guys and gals for making it a fun time! *sniff*
Edit: As promised, I've got some pictures up now: Local Sports Team 2005 Enjoy!
